Amatikwe, Inanda, KZN
Principal, Mr Zulu welcomed us into his school under the mountains of Amatikwe. After months of preparation and a very busy set up week, we had the joy of launching Amatikwe Primary School’s first school library and book corners on 25 January 2019.
This work was proudly sponsored by the AES Charitable Trust. Launch day included a celebration of hope with singing, dancing and spoken word, led in style by the confident MCs — two Amatikwe learners.

Transformation takes teamwork
Teachers assisted with the covering of books and completed our library training course, empowering them to make the most of their library. A librarian was appointed and trained by LEARN and spent some time at neighbouring school Kasturba Gandhi Primary to learn from KZN Librarian of the Year Nomfundo Mthethwa. Library monitors were also trained and prepared to embrace their roles of leadership with confidence and excellence.
We continue to journey with Amatikwe Primary School and have boosted their school with more books, taking the total number of books donated thus far to 1,935!
”“Our learners enjoy spending quality time in the library and borrowing books. In the classroom, the educators have noticed an increase in the level of reading.”
— MR MLUNGISI ZONDO, LIBRARIAN
