Ekuthuleni Primary was our first official LEARN beneficiary school, with their library launched on 3 December 2013 and book corners established in September 2015. The school is thriving under the leadership of principal, Mr Sambulo Khalala and a strong LEARN trained library team led by Mrs Dudu Thusi and Wiseman Njeke.
In July 2019, we undertook a complete revamp of this library, with new shelving, paint and a boost of books, proudly sponsored by the AES Charitable Trust. The opening ceremony on 19 July 2019 was a heart-warming reflection of the passion that lies within this school. Ekuthuleni has taken the utmost care in looking after their library and is making full use of the books and opportunities presented to them.

Transformation takes teamwork
We have been on an amazing journey with this school. From library and literacy workshops to covering and shelving books, the teachers have been actively involved in moving their school forward. Set up day was a collaborative effort as the teachers and principal assisted us with the set up of their revamped library. The reading club and library monitors meet regularly and the Foundation Phase have introduced English as their main language of instruction and are seeing an increase in the level of reading and overall English marks.
”“We are so grateful for the books covered in plastic and for training our teachers on the use of the library. Our children have developed a love for reading due to your valuable contribution.”
— MR SAMBULO KHALALA, PRINCIPAL
