DPHS initiated the ‘Tries for lives’ campaign in partnership with Sport For Lives and The LEARN Project, whereby the boys of DPHS were encouraged to pledge a once off or ‘per try’ amount during their rugby season to help raise funds towards a new library and book corners for Eqinisweni Primary School. Grateful thanks goes to SABT for joining forces and for their significant contribution to making this dream a reality.
The official library and book corner opening, on 7 September 2023, was a colourful celebration with an audience of KZN DOE, principals, The LEARN Project, SABT, Sport For Lives, DPHS and the Eqinisweni community. This opening displayed the partnership between schools, companies, individuals and volunteers, all who came together on a journey to educate our rainbow nation through the power of 2248 books!

Transformation takes teamwork
The DPHS boys and teachers visited Eqinisweni Primary throughout the library set up journey, engaging in rugby skills and sharing their love and appreciation of books with the learners, through the donation of books, raising of funds and active assistance in the set-up of their new library. From book corner classroom transformations in the Foundation Phase to a functional Intersen library, every detail was taken care of through this collaborative effort.
”“We, as Eqinisweni Primary, really appreciate having a library and library corners in our school. The library has improved reading drastically — most of our learners can read with understanding now.”
— CHARITY NOMAGUGU KINASE, PRINCIPAL
