It is our greatest joy and pleasure to unlock doors of opportunity and through this new library and classroom book corners, minds opened and lives forever changed at Ithwelenye Primary School. The launch morning was a jubilant celebration as learners cheered and expressed their gratitude through traditional dancing, singing and speeches, showcasing their amazing talents and marking the day their school gained access to a functional library and reading books.
Library monitors received their badges and certificates, as did each teacher who completed their LEARN Library training course. It is always a joy having fellow LEARN beneficiary school librarians and principals in attendance to show their support, as well as Patsy Waites, representing key sponsor, the AES Charitable Trust, making 1 November 2019 a day never to be forgotten.

Transformation takes teamwork
The LEARN Project worked hard with the Essentials Building team to bring our vision of a beautiful library to life. An old, run-down classroom was given a fresh coat of paint, windows and door fixed, shelving installed, curtains hung and tables and chairs placed to create a ready-to-read space. Books were processed, catalogued and accessioned into a register for the library and covered by volunteers and teachers. Teachers enjoyed an interactive course on the use and function of the library and library monitors completed their training in preparation for becoming reading ambassadors and library assistants. The set up day was a collaborative effort including LEARN volunteers, the school principal, teachers and library monitors.
”“I am so grateful because you gave us books where we can get knowledge which will enhance learning, teaching and progress. This library is going to unlock minds to help learners think.”
— MRS GUGU NGIDI, PRINCIPAL
