On 21 October 2021, we officially opened Zuzokuhle Primary School’s Intersen Library and 11 Foundation Phase book corners. In celebration, the whole school joined in an outdoor assembly with guests from the Department of Education, Elits, the school governing body, teachers, Partners for Possibility, as well as LEARN representatives and Patsy Waites representing Key Sponsor, AES Charitable Trust.
Guests enjoyed listening to learners demonstrating reading aloud, story-telling and group reading. The Grade 7 traditional dance group ignited a flame of excitement as guests prepared to go on a tour of the new library and book corners. With this being the school’s very first library, the official cutting of the library ribbon by two library monitors marked the opening of this beautiful facility and the start of a beautiful new chapter for the school.

Transformation takes teamwork
A large, empty room in urgent need of repair was completely renovated, including a whole new ceiling. Every teacher in the school from Grade R-7 attended LEARN’s ‘Welcome to The Library’ course and assisted with the covering of library books. Librarian, Mr Handsome Mvelase completed the librarian training course and all 15 library monitors assisted with the set-up of the library and were awarded their library monitor badges.
”“This beautiful and resourceful library will provide all our learners equitable exposure and access to the library facility that will enhance improved reading skills, thus improving learner performance. It also serves as a resource centre for all our educators.”
— MRS NOLWAZI GUMEDE, PRINCIPAL
